Well this week certainly didn't turn out as planned! I was looking forward to having plenty of time to spend on CASA. I had a permanency conference to attend and a court date, but also planned to go to South Dallas county to see my new kiddos. I was all hyped up for week 2 of my new exercise regimen. Also was looking forward to some quality time with Dennis while it was just the two of us. Here is what happened instead:
I had a pretty full day on Monday. The kids were planning to leave as soon as Sheila got off work. At the last minute, Rebecca decided to go along on the trip. So around 5:30 or so, they loaded up all of their stuff (which COMPLETELY filled Sheila's Honda) and headed north on their road trip to Colorado. Dennis and I enjoyed a quiet evening at home together. I got up Tuesday morn and did my Zumba workout. It left me really exhausted, which wasn't unusual, but I never snapped back during the day...just kept feeling exhausted. By that evening I realized I was getting a cold. Woke up Wednesday morning with a bad sore throat, congestion and COUGH. Started running fever that evening and all day Thursday...felt rotten. I HAD to still attend the conference on Wednesday and court on Thursday, but felt like "Typhoid Mary" the whole time...keeping my cough drops and tissues at ready. Didn't really accomplish anything else those two days (other than the basic necessities: cooking, dishes, laundry). Finally went to the doctor on Friday. Got some antibiotics for my sinus infection, plus a new nose spray and some cough medicine. Hopefully I'll be perking up by the end of today. I was able to sleep in my bed all night, which felt really good!
The kids are on their last leg home after spending the night in Amarillo. They should be home by supper time. I really look forward to hearing all about their trip. The pictures I've seen so far have been great. That is really gorgeous country that they visited, and it sounds like they got PLENTY of snow!
Well, we will be meeting one last time at the Brock Community Center tomorrow. We've decided to go with the interlocking padded chairs rather than pews, and they should be delivered sometime next week. It will feel like a completely new building! Now we are looking for new songbooks. We were hoping to just order the same ones we had, but they seem to be out of print. The guys are having their Sunday afternoon business meeting/study tomorrow, so maybe they'll make the final decision then.
Well, like it or not, I HAVE to go buy groceries today. Hope your weekend goes well and the first week of spring is bringing good things your way!

Renovation
Week 1 of my new healthier lifestyle went well. I mixed it up, so I didn't do the same workout twice. Monday - treadmill, Tuesday - weights and resistance bands, Wednesday - Zumba, Thursday - Pilates, (skipped Friday) and Saturday - just did a freestyle workout for about 45 minutes (some cardio, some weights). Then Saturday afternoon, Ricky and I went out and bowled 2 games. (He did GREAT...I did my usual pitiful performance.) I'm not "dieting", but I am trying to eat healthier and cut down on portions and snacking. My scales are not very accurate (and they aren't digital), so I'm not sure about my weight loss; but it looks like I lost 2-3 pounds. I'm trying not to focus so much on the weight loss...just trying to get more fit and feel better. After stopping my exercise routine last year, I feel like I have aged at least 10 years! I'm wanting to have more energy, strength and flexibility. Ricky is being really good about encouraging me, which helps! Continuing to watch "The Biggest Loser" helps, too. If those people who have been morbidly obese for most of their lives can make such a dramatic change, then surely I can too! (Of course, it would be nice to have a personal trainer and all the exercise equipment that they have access to!)
It is definitely springtime around here! The trees are beginning to leaf out and things are blooming all over. Allergies are flaring up everywhere too. The weather keeps bouncing around...90 degrees one day, in the 60's, the next.
Well, Ricky and Sheila's vacation got postponed a couple of days. Sheila found out Thursday that she had to come in to work today. The bank is being sold to Community National Bank out of Corsicana, and they are having a meeting today...introducing them to their new CEO and COO. The current bank president (who has been like a grandfather to the girls) believes it to be in Sheila's best interests to be present. He wants to insure that the new owners realize what an essential member of their staff that she is. Plus she is the "go-to girl" for accessing information. This change of management/ownership will shake things up at the bank, but Sheila feels confident that most of the changes will be good ones. She will miss the current bank president, tho. He has been the one who has done so much for her and Jessica over the years.
We went by the church house yesterday afternoon. It is almost finished...we should be able to assemble there next Lord's day. It really looks great! I will try to remember to take my camera next week and share pictures. We are currently trying to decide what to do about seating. We are wanting to upgrade from our current pews. We've been looking online at used pews, but we haven't been able to get any responses to our enquiries. Last night, while we were eating supper with Layne and Heather, they asked about buying interlocking cushioned chairs. Heather showed me a picture of them and said the church at College Station is using this type of seating and really like it. The price is very reasonable, too. So we are using this week to explore our options. We plan to just all bring folding chairs until we make our decision and implement it. We don't want to tear up our new flooring with the old pews! It will really be nice to get back into our own building...even tho we have greatly appreciated the use of the Brock Community Center.
A good week to all!
Isa 35:1 The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. 2 It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the LORD, and the excellency of our God. 3 Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees.

Facing MY Giant...
The past couple of weeks have been pretty busy! I baked and decorated three cakes: one depicting a llama farm (for a retirement party; one, a 3D Hello Kitty cake (for my 16 year old CASA kid), and the last, a castle wedding cake (never again!). I also helped Ricky with a bake sale (baking a dozen banana nut mini-loaves and a batch of cookies, then helping work the sale); attended a court hearing, a permanency conference and started getting up to speed on my new CASA case...plus put together a court report for an upcoming permanency hearing. The wedding was Saturday evening (after a nasty storm blew through the area), and then...Daylight Savings Time! Joy, oh joy...how I love DST (can you hear the sarcasm dripping from my words?). I'm afraid to say that I was pretty grumpy yesterday...just plain tired and burned out. I tried to keep it inside and just not say anything, but I'm sure I wasn't the most pleasant person to be around all day.

Ricky introduced me to the show, "The Biggest Loser", yesterday afternoon. It sure made me want to get my act together and start working out again! I had been doing so well with my exercise program until last August, when I started keeping Caidem. I've allowed one thing after another to keep interfering ever since. I might exercise once or twice and then let it go again...never staying with it and allowing it to become a regular habit. I gained back all the weight that I had lost since my hysterectomy and have really been "feeling my age" lately. I'm hoping I can turn it around and stay motivated enough to get back to a healthier lifestyle!
This week should be much more manageable. I have quite a bit of CASA work to do (having 3 cases really keeps me busy!), but I don't have any other "special projects" going on. Then next week, Ricky and Sheila are leaving on vacation. I will really miss the two of them, but that will give me even more time to get back into an exercise routine. (I'm really bad about finding excuses!)
Well I guess it is time to "put my money where my mouth is" and get busy!
Pr 23:2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. 3 Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.
