Home at last!

I have to lead off with the most recent news:  Shepherd is home!  Stephen and Mandy left last Sunday to go get him.  Sheila stayed with Jesse at their house.  We went last weekend to see them off before they left and have a little time to visit with Jesse.  We haven't been able to "meet" Shepherd yet, but I've loved seeing all the pictures.  Such a happy day!

The rest of the week didn't go as well.  Dennis got sick Wednesday night with what we thought, at the time, was food poisoning.  He was up all night, sick as the proverbial dog.  I had already bought tickets to the movies for us for Wednesday evening and hated to waste both of them, so I ventured out on my own for the first time.  It went fine, so I went ahead and made the trip to Keller for my doctor visit alone, too.  The doctor told me that I could start walking:  first with crutches, adding more and more weight as I could tolerate it, and hopefully in a couple of weeks be able to remove the boot.  I CAN now remove the boot for bathing, which is wonderful!  No more struggling to get the waterproof cover over it before every bath.  I also begin my physical therapy on Monday.  The doctor assures me that will give me a much better shot at recovering full use of my foot.

I was really excited to get home and start trying out my crutches and walking.  After supper, I started feeling really exhausted and slightly nauseated.  I thought it was just fatigue at first.  After sleeping a couple of hours and still not feeling any better, I realized that Dennis' food poisoning was a virus instead.  I haven't been throwing up, but have been very nauseated and weak, with chills.  I had some anti-nausea medication left over from after surgery, which helps, but it also causes headaches.  So today has been a total bust!  I've not even used my crutches...to weak to mess with them.  I'm hoping we both feel much better tomorrow.  Ricky is trying to keep his distance so that he doesn't catch it, too!  Sheila was supposed to come over tomorrow, but I told her she'd better stay away.  Until everyone is well, and I have the energy to disinfect everything, NOONE needs to enter this house!

1 month post-op

Well, I am just past the 1 month mark since my surgery.  Went back to the doctor today, and she removed my cast. However, I'm still not allowed to put any weight on my foot.  I return in 2 weeks, and then I will start physical therapy.  I will begin to start putting weight on it at that time.  This is just taking longer than I had hoped!   Here is a pic of my boot.  Even though it is removable,  I'm supposed to wear it ALL the time.

I had really hoped I could start walking.  I'm thankful for my little scooter, but it greatly hinders me from doing much.  I guess I need a bit more exercise in patience.  This has greatly increased my admiration for those who have suffered with disabilities for years.  

Tomorrow night is Jessica's shower.  I am not sure I will be able to make it now.  The location isn't exactly handicap accessible...especially as wet as it is.  We had 7" of rain Monday and Tuesday.  It is still drizzly and overcast.  Ricky hasn't been able to work all week, due to the weather.  At least we didn't have any damage at our house.  Some areas of MW had up to a foot of water in their houses.  Several homes and buildings in Cool were torn up by a tornado.  I never heard of any serious injuries though. 

Just had a fender bender on the freeway,  heading home from the doctor.  Dennis said it wasn't even worth bothering with insurance.  A guy rammed into the back of us.   I've been concerned about that with all the driving back and forth to Keller.   Oh well, it could have been much worse!

Well this is sounding too whiny, so I guess I'd better stop!  I really have too much to be thankful for to complain!  I'm very thankful that Charles is doing so well after his heart attack!  God was definitely taking care of him!

3 weeks post-op

Not much going on other than recuperating.  I got my staples out on Friday.  That was not pleasant!  But it sure feels better with them gone!  They also put a new cast on my foot, flexing it more than with the earlier cast.  I think the girl who did the cast was new at it, because she did not do a good job.  It was very tight and uncomfortable...almost unbearably so in the evenings, when my foot started to swell.  We went back today and they "clamshelled" it...cutting up both sides and wrapping it with an Ace bandage, so we can adjust the tension.  I ought to be able to rest much better at night now.  Last night was awful!  I go back on the 10th to have this cast removed, and I'm HOPING that I get my walking boot at that time.  I am SO ready to start walking again!

I had to go to court last week for one of my CASA cases.  Dennis drove me and then went on his daily walk while I waited for my case to be called.  I couldn't fit my scooter up in the "court" area, so I just sat on the front row of the audience and addressed the judge from there.  I was a bit nervous about how the case was going, but it worked out just as I had hoped! 

Sheila came and spent the day with us on Saturday.  Dennis cooked us chicken quesadillas for lunch.  Yum!  He's turning into a pretty good cook!

I was able to attend church services both times on Sunday.  It is so nice to be (slowly) getting back into a regular routine. 

It will be interesting to see the results of the elections today.  I'm hoping for a "miracle"...one that doesn't have Trump as the Republican nominee!  If the November elections have him running against Hillary, I think I will refuse to vote for the first time.  I cannot, in good conscience, vote for either of them!  I'm also very interested in our local elections for the first time.  We are electing a new County Attorney, who is the one who tries most of the CPS cases.  I'm really hoping my candidate (Keri Walden) wins the race.  I truly believe she will be the kind of attorney that will take care of our kiddos!
