Have I mentioned my new favorite author...Lisa Wingate? It took me a few books to realize how much I liked her writing. I would read a random book and find some beautiful quote within and think..."Wow, this is an amazing book!" Weeks or months later, I would read another random book and find a beautifully worded passage that I had to share and think..."This is such a beautiful book!" After the third time, I got to checking the author and realized they were all written by the same woman. (Yeah, it takes me awhile to notice things.) She lives in Texas (that gives her extra credit right there) and writes inspirational books with very realistic characters who make a difference...in spite of their human frailties. (She is also on facebook and is quite friendly.)
"Good Hope Road" takes place in Missouri over the course of a few days...beginning with a devastating tornado and its aftermath. It is written from the perspective of two very different characters. The first is a young woman from "the wrong side of the tracks", who feels trapped by her family circumstances. The second, her neighbor who is an older widow who has a tendency to harshly judge others but keeps some troubling secrets of her own. The struggles they face as the town tries to rescue storm survivors and find a way to move forward teach them both some surprising lessons. This story will touch your heart and may just make you reexamine your own life and relationships.

A growing body!
A new child is born in Christ! Last night after their study, Pam H. was immersed into Christ (even tho it was freezing outside and she was terrified of water!). Pam works for Layne and has been attending with her husband, Pete, at Highway for about a year now. Pete was baptized when he was 14 but has been out of duty for a very long time. He has expressed his desire to return to the church. We are so excited to have this wonderful couple as part of our family!
It does my heart good to see the love and energy that is flowing at Highway! We've been through some rough times over the past few years. However, the growth of the congregation and each member has been so encouraging. We've had five conversions in the past few months...aided by several different members. The beauty of the "body", as Christ designed it, is an amazing thing. Eph 4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
What is even better is to hear of the same thing happening in other congregations around the brotherhood. It is an exciting time in the church! I pray that we will continue to respond to God's teachings and the influence of His Spirit and that the Word will be magnified in the world. To God be the glory!
Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

O Happy Day!
Dennis came home Thursday night from work and said, "I'm off!" It was his long weekend to be off from work, but he was on the schedule (he hasn't had a weekend off, other than vacation time, since August). However, FW doesn't like all the overtime hours being paid so they informed the postmaster to send someone home and Dennis was it! What an unexpected treat! Since Sundays are usually Dennis' only day to rest, I don't usually invite anyone over for Sunday dinner...to allow him to nap all afternoon. With the weekend free, we decided to have company. The Rasmussen bunch and Mike and Denice all came over and spent the afternoon. It was so nice to have time together! Then about 3:30, Debbie, a lady that Jared works with and has been studying with, joined us. (She had to work Sunday morning.) After the evening assembly and supper with Daddy and Bobbie and Anita and Sherrod, we headed home and went to bed early. At 11:30, I was awakened by a text message from Anita. Jared had been studying on the phone with Debbie all evening and she was wanting to be baptized...right away! We all hastily got dressed and headed over to the Cunningham's house (to utilize their hot tub). Debbie was immersed into Christ at about 1:00 this morning! Such a joyful occasion!!! After singing a few songs and welcoming our new sister, we all dispersed to our separate homes for a short night of rest. ;)
My girls were in Clarksville over the weekend. This was their yearly girls' weekend at Britney's house. Last week was pretty busy, so we haven't seen them since last Monday night. I am missing my girls, and I still don't know when I'll get to see them! Tonight we have a visitation to attend in Weatherford. The twin brother of our dear brother Jim passed away last week and his funeral is tomorrow. The girls have something planned tomorrow night and Wednesday is their "Brown night." We usually have our study with Pam and Pete on Thursdays, so it will probably be Friday before they can come over. I don't like going that long without having time with my girls!!!! Maybe we can work in a lunch date sometime this week!
Linda M's surgery was last Wednesday and went very well! She is really doing well, considering! She said her pain that she was having before surgery is completely gone. Of course, there is considerable pain from the incision, plus the inevitable back spasms, but she is progressing well and may get to go home tomorrow. Hallelujah! She has been suffering for SO long.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week! Please pray for our new babe in Christ!
Ac 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

*Sigh of contentment*
It has been a good week followed by another wonderful Lord's Day. I am so thankful for all of God's many blessings! It started raining Friday and has continued off and on all weekend...supposed to continue up through tomorrow morning. It hasn't been a hard rain, just gentle showers that have really soaked in to nourish our parched land. The weather is turning colder, which I like to see. I love being able to wear sweaters and warm socks and bundle up in afghans and throws. And I love being able to bake and make jerky...using the heat from the oven to help warm the house. *another sigh of contentment*
We had a very inspiring lesson this morning on assessing our spiritual age and that of our congregation. Gave us all plenty of food for contemplation. We enjoyed several visitors again at the morning assembly and were happy to meet some new folks who are interested in learning more about the gospel. It is so encouraging to see several in our congregation taking an active role in teaching the gospel! The singing in both assemblies was wonderful! As Jared said tonight at supper, "We've been having a lot more 'awwww' moments...where you can almost imagine the skies opening up and angels appearing and singing....'AWWWWW!'
Linda M. is having her back surgery on Wednesday. Please keep her in your prayers! She has been in pain for a long time, and we hope and pray that this will make her feel a LOT better! It will be a bit of a rough recovery for awhile, but from talking to others who have undergone this same surgery, she feels very hopeful that this will provide her with much needed relief.
I hope everyone who reads this has a wonderful week and enjoys the blessings that we have in such abundance!
Ps 148:1-5 Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the LORD from the heavens: praise him in the heights. Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts. Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light. Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens. Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created.

1Ch 29:13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.
We had another special Lord's Day this week. We had a quite a few visitors that morning, and it was wonderful to visit with each of them. Layne's lesson was super: talking about the need for us to be constant and steadfast. The singing was amazing...my heart was overflowing! I am so thankful that we have the ability to so easily assemble with other dear Christians each week to worship our God and be uplifted by His Spirit.
Sunday night, the interstate was backed up for miles in each direction. There was only a handful of us up until the last few minutes before time to start the assembly. We figured that the Weatherford people wouldn't be able to make it due to traffic. Then at the last minute they all came filing in and we had a really nice crowd after all. It is so good to see so many who desire to be at the assembly even when it isn't easy!
Dennis' mom left Saturday morning. Charles and Belinda had driven down to Waco to spend some time with the Tabors. I drove Maxine over to meet up with them in FW on their way back through. So glad that they were all able to come share in our Thanksgiving Day with us! Stephen and Mandy spent Wednesday night with us before having to head back Thursday evening. As always, I loved having them here! Mandy and I shared some special time together in the kitchen before the other guests arrived. Daddy and Bobbie were also here for the day with homemade pumpkin pies made fresh from their garden. It was a relaxing and fun day of visiting and enjoying the abundance that we've been blessed with.
After everyone had either left or gone to bed, I decided to check out the "Black Friday" sales at WalMart. I waited until a little after 11:00 p.m., because I didn't want to fight the rush. The sheets that I wanted were totally sold out by time I got there, but I found a few things to get...along with a few groceries. The crowd was the biggest I'd ever seen in MW, but most of them were huddled over wrapped pallets waiting on the midnight sale to begin. I was able to get in and out with very little trouble. I do not understand why people wait around for HOURS for "things". I appreciate a bargain as much as the next guy, but life is so much more than finding and procuring the best deal.
Here are a few verses that I want to leave with you for this week:
Col 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
Ga 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is: love, joy, peace,
long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, 23 meekness, self-control; against such things there is no
law. 24 But those belonging to Christ have crucified the flesh
with its passions and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Php 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but
in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
Joh 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge
righteous judgment.
Have a wonderful week!

Thanksgiving Week!
It is my favorite week of the year...Thanksgiving! I'm too excited to
sleep tonight...went to bed early (for me) and my mind wouldn't turn
off. So here I am! Making last minute plans and lists...tweaking menus
and schedules...and thinking about my blessings, in general. I have so
much to be thankful for!
This year we have 13 planning to be here for Thanksgiving dinner...unless I can convince another one or two to show up. Ricky won't be able to come home this year since he has to work on Friday, but I'm thankful he has a second family in Arkansas that he can be with. Stephen and Mandy will only be here for one day this year because of Mandy's new job. I will miss our special time with them that we usually have over the long weekend, but life has a tendency to get in the way sometimes. I'm always thankful for the time that we that we DO have with them. Daddy and Bobbie will be here...we always love having those two lovebirds around. We are excited to have Charles and Belinda's family coming this year and bringing Dennis' mom. I've always loved LARGE Thanksgivings...the way it was when I was growing up. Thirteen isn't anywhere near the number that we had back then (25-30 was more like it), but it is moving in the right direction.
I loved our Thanksgivings at Granny's house! All of my mom's family would be there: Granny & Granddaddy, all my aunts and uncles and cousins. There would be two tables set up in the kitchen and long picnic tables (for kids) in the living room/hall area. And the food! I really don't know how we fit it all on the tables. Granny would bake every kind of pie you can imagine...she stored them on shelves in her bedroom where it always stayed cool. After thoroughly stuffing ourselves and cleaning up the dishes, it was time for all of us cousins to head outside. ( With that many kids around, the adults made us stay outside most of the time...but we didn't mind!) We'd usually head out to the "woods". (I didn't realize until I was grown that our woods were nothing more than mesquite flats.) What grand adventures we had! Sometime during the weekend, we'd usually have a game of Red Rover in the back yard. It was the "extreme" version...our family didn't go easy on anyone! No tv or "store-bought" games for us. As we got older, we might join in with the adults to play dominoes or 500, but our best times were spent outside.
Well, I really need to try to get some sleep. I have a lot of work to do before Thursday. I hope you all have a safe and happy Thanksgiving and take the time to enjoy the blessings of family and friends and home!
1Th 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Thankful for 34 years with Dennis!
Exactly thirty-four years ago this morning, I was rushing around doing last minute things before my wedding (including having the rehearsal). It has been quite a ride since then! Dennis and I have lived in 9 separate houses/apartments in 8 different towns, moving a total of 12 times (not counting the 2 months we lived with Momma and Daddy after Stephen was born). We've hunted (and butchered!) and fished together and as a family. We've gone on adventures to Colorado, Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Louisiana...as well as our own great state of Texas. We've worked, played, prayed, laughed, cried, sang, studied and just enjoyed the quiet times together. We've enjoyed having countless numbers of friends and family in our home. As my favorite saying states, we've "Lived, Laughed and Loved". We have certainly faced our share of struggles along the way, but through it all our family's anchor verse has held true: Rom. 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Having Dennis by my side, supporting me and helping me remember God's promises has been such a wonderful blessing! I believe, when it comes time for our renegotiation in 26 more years, I'll be more than happy to re-up. (We jokingly decided, when we got engaged, that we would try it out for 60 years and then see what happens.)
Mt 19:6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Potluck at the Tabernacle
We enjoyed a beautiful Lord's Day yesterday. Dennis gave an excellent lesson on being spiritually fruitful. Then we all gathered at "The Tabernacle" for a potluck. The Tabernacle is (now) a cabin on the property that belongs to one of the Highway congregation's earliest families...the Bodifords. The original structure (around 100 years old) was an open pavilion that was used as an assembly place in the summer (the one room schoolhouse nearby serving in the colder months) for the Highway congregation before building the place where we now meet. In the years since, it has morphed into a comfortable cabin that the family still uses for special occasions. It was my family's first time to be there for a gathering. It is set way off the road on the OLD county road that ran along the Brazos River (now a scenic private drive). It is a beautiful and restful setting and all had a wonderful time with good food, a short history lesson and reminiscing about the years gone by, and fine fellowship. Afterwards we met back up at the church building for an early evening service and heard a wonderful study on Genesis 19 by Ron.
Sheila, Anita and Karen
Jim and Mary - Jim was baptized in the river right below where the cabin sits.
AJ and Toby
The Fields and a friend
The Pettits

Dennis takes a 2 week vacation
Just enjoyed a lovely evening with my girls. So thankful that they have been here to keep me company while Dennis has been gone! He, James & Jared P. and Stephen left Friday to go hunting in the Davy Crockett National Forest. Dennis killed a buck opening morning, and Jared killed one the next day. Jared went back to Houston after killing his deer, and Stephen left after Monday morning's hunt. Dennis and James are supposed to come home sometime tomorrow...they are hoping the cool front will get the deer moving in the morning. This is the longest Dennis been gone from home in a very long time, and I am ready to have him back!
Last week was so relaxing (most of the time). Dennis was off all week so we slept as late as we wanted every morning (which isn't nearly as late as it was in our younger years!). We got some things done around the house and built Sherlock's winter house. (He is loving it already!) The Browns came over for supper on Thursday, and then we butchered Rebekah's two deer. It was a wonderfully well-run operation: those Browns really caught on fast! It turned into a very late night, but there was a lot of good meat for both of our freezers when we finished.
The girls spent the night over here Saturday night. Jessica was lying on the couch while we were watching TV. Suddenly she jumped up and ran across the room saying that the couch was moving. Sheila and I were skeptical, but she insisted that the back of the couch moved. We looked under the cushions and behind and under the couch and didn't see anything. Finally someone joked that it might have been an earthquake. Sure enough, after looking on the internet we discovered that there had just been another quake in OK, with tremors being felt in Ark. and Texas. I guess she was the only one to feel it, since the couch is up next to the wall. Weird!
I've been a bit under the weather for the past week. Started coming down with a cold last Tuesday. The coughing started up over the weekend. I made it to services Sunday morning, but it was all I could do to keep from coughing the whole time. I went through about a half package of cough drops and kept a cup of water to sip when it got too bad. The girls brought me home right after the assembly was over so I could minimize exposing anyone else to my germs. I felt like Typhoid Mary! I finally started feeling better today...even bought groceries, made banana nut bread and cooked supper for the girls. I'm hoping it doesn't develop into a sinus infection, but it is threatening to.
I've been knitting dishrags when I have felt up to it. A friend has "commissioned" me to make ten of them for Christmas gifts. I'm currently working on #7. I've neglected working on the infinity scarf for Jessica for quite a while. It requires a lot of concentration and I just haven't had it in me lately. Maybe next week!
Have a safe and healthy week and enjoy this gorgeous fall weather!
Ps 104:27 These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season.

A new hunter is on the scene!
Dennis is on vacation for the next two weeks. He really needs it! Saturday, he worked until 3:30...getting off early by skipping lunch. Then he took Rebekah B. hunting for youth season. He had built a stand on their place a few weeks back to make it easier on her (and him). They showed up here around 9:00 p.m. (along with a proud papa, Thiess) with a big buck AND doe! By the time Dennis got finished skinning and quartering them, it was 1:00...and he still hadn't had time to eat anything since breakfast. He was one exhausted guy! But he was SO proud of Bekah! He loves to share his love for hunting with others and see them be successful. (No, this isn't Bekah's buck, but her's was very nice!)
I had spent Saturday cooking for our potluck Sunday. We had 2 guest speakers come over from JH: Ralph S. and Grady D, along with their families. In between services, James and Renee were gracious enough to invite everyone over to their house for the potluck. After an early assembly that afternoon, we grabbed a quick supper and then spent the rest of the evening visiting at the Browns. It was a great day of fellowship...and yummy food!
Dennis and I slept in this morning until after 8:00! It felt wonderful!!! After tending to some chores around the house, we drove to the Bass Pro Shop in Grapevine. Dennis had a gift card that he'd received for his b'day. We shopped for a good while, finding Dennis a new pair of warm hunting pants and some more jerky mix, grabbed a burger for supper and then went over to Grapevine Mills to see if there was anything we wanted to do there. "Courageous" was showing at the theatre, but it was a couple of hours until the first showing and we didn't want to stay that late. The aquarium was too expensive and we really weren't interested in the stores in the mall, so we braved traffic and headed home.
Dennis, James and Jared, Sherrod and Stephen are planning on going to E. TX to hunt in the national forest for opening weekend. They leave Friday: opening day is Saturday. They plan to be gone until the following Wednesday. They ought to have a blast! The girls and I are planning to go to FW on Saturday to watch a movie and probably do some shopping. I'm hoping they'll agree to a sleepover that night!
I hope everyone enjoys this beautiful November week!
De 14:4 "These are the animals which you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat, 5 "the deer, the gazelle, the roe deer, the wild goat, the mountain goat, the antelope, and the mountain sheep. 6 "And you may eat every animal with cloven hooves, having the hoof split into two parts, and that chews the cud, among the animals. ;)

6 "And you may eat every animal with cloven hooves, having the hoof split into two parts, and that chews the cud, among the animals. ;)

"I'll Fly Away"
What a week! It all started late Tuesday morning when Sheila called to see if I could go to FW with her. She had a recall notice on her car and was able to schedule an appointment to get it fixed at 2:00. We grabbed a quick lunch and drove to the Honda dealership on the west side of FW. While they worked on the car, we did a little shopping. It worked out perfect. They called to tell her it was ready just as we were finishing up at Mardels! I made it home just in time to throw together some supper for the four of us. After supper, the girls and I worked on their costumes: a "spelling bee" for Sheila and an owl for Jessica.
I spent all day Wednesday cooking up jerky. Then James came over so he and Dennis could study with a couple that have been attending services with us for several months. That night, just as we were about to go to bed, we got a call telling us that they had CareFlighted Dee Jordan to FW after a massive heart attack. We were awakened the next morning to a phone call letting us know that she has passed away. Such a shock! Her Alzheimer's had been worsening, but no one expected her heart to give out like that. It was a blessing that she died so peacefully, but poor, dear Winston is absolutely heartbroken! Thursday was a whirlwind of phone calls, cooking and visiting...then crashing that night. Friday morning, I started preparing for the kids coming in for the weekend and funeral. Anita had had a rough day on Thursday, so I invited her over for lunch and visit Friday afternoon. Their family has really been going through a hard time lately and the stress is really working on her. (They just took her mom back to the hospital this afternoon. Her diverticulitis has her where she can't keep anything in her stomach. She keeps getting dehydrated and losing weight. Please keep her in your prayers!)
Stephen and Mandy got here just in time for supper Friday night. They had a wonderful trip to NH and Maine. Ricky came in Saturday night...just in time for supper! It was great having my kiddos all home. It is a rare occurrence these days, so I treasure every minute!
Thiess had asked Dennis to speak at Eastside Sunday morning, so Dennis asked Stephen to fill in. It was good to see everyone there, and Stephen gave a very good lesson on "hospitality." Ricky wanted to spend more time visiting with our Highway family, so he attended there that morning. Evening services were cancelled for the family visitation for the Jordan family Sunday afternoon. Stephen and Mandy left after visitation, while a big group of us went for our usual Sunday night dinner at Rosa's.
We awakened this morning to a gray world...pretty fitting for how we were all feeling as we went to Dee's funeral. The fog was so dense, it was scary to get out on the highway...visibility was extremely low! Everyone made it safely, however, and we all said our goodbyes to a dearly loved lady. Ricky headed back towards Arkansas right after the service. We set out dinner for the family afterwards. I finally headed home around 2:00. An exhausting weekend, both emotionally and physically! So thankful for my family and my church family though.
Today's verses are in memory of Dee...she was one of the most hospitable ladies I've ever known:
Ro 12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; 11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; 12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; 13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.

Jerky Time!
First batch of deer jerky this season!
Dennis killed his first deer of the season on the opening morning of bow season...a nice big doe! That next week I defrosted the freezer to get it ready for this year's supply of meat. ~Household tip #423: Always remember to turn freezer back on after defrosting it and replacing all of your frozen food in it!~ The only things I lost were a couple of half empty bags of fish, a few bags of veggies and fruit. The meat was all frozen hard enough and packed tight enough to stay frozen until I noticed, the next day, my error. *sigh* After aging the venison for 10 days, we butchered and packaged it. I still had quite a few packages of meat left over from last year, so I'm trying to use them up as quickly as possible. Today I am cooking up a batch of jerky. I have a few more packages that need to be sliced and marinated, which I'll probably cook up Wednesday. The weather is supposed to be quite chilly, which will be perfect for running the oven all day!
The hand surgeon told me it was called Dupuytren's Disease - a genetic condition most often found in men of Northern European ancestry. Well, obviously, I don't fit the first criteria, but I am of Scots/Irish descent. The tissue just beneath the skin (the fascia) starts to grow in a cluster, causing the nodule and can, but doesn't always, cause contractures. Mine hasn't done this yet and hopefully won't. The doctor told me to just watch it to make sure it doesn't. The condition can't be treated, other than surgery to remove the material when it does start contracting. The trouble with surgery is that it can trigger the growth of more nodules...thus the wait and see approach!
The same day, I also went back for my followup to the cardiologist. He said I passed my stress echocardiogram with flying colors. His only suggestion was to try to lose another 20 pounds by my next visit...good suggestion...hard to comply! I'll do what I can tho!
Then on Thursday I went for an MRI. I've had a pinched nerve in my neck for about 10 years and it has been getting progressively worse lately, so my doctor wanted to get a better look at what was going on. Guess what? I have a pinched nerve in my neck! The MRI was an experience that I DO NOT want to repeat. I managed not to totally freak out, but my heart was pounding 90 to nothing and I didn't dare open my eyes! After some fervent prayer, I started counting backwards from 1000 to try to keep my mind off of where I was. I made it through, but I was SO relieved to get out of that place!!!! My doctor wants me to see a neurosurgeon to see what my options are. I'm not sure surgery is the best option for now...I don't think I'm suffering enough yet for that! I do NOT want to live on pain medication tho. Right now I'm using a muscle relaxer and ibuprofen, which does pretty good. My doctor tried me on Neurontin, but I didn't like the way it made me feel and quit taking it after a few days.
Looking forward to the weather turning cooler tomorrow! The lows are supposed to get down into the 30's. I am SO ready!!! I got the yard mowed Saturday, and I'm hoping it will be the last time for the season. This summer was so hard on our lawn. We watered as much as we could afford to (and then some), but we still ended up with some dead spots. The 6" rain we got while the girls and I were in Arkansas was greatly appreciated! (We even saw some hay that had been cut yesterday on our way to the assembly...first time in MANY months!)
Sheila made a quick trip up to see Ricky over the weekend. She took off a couple days from work, so she wouldn't have to hurry home. We are expecting her back this afternoon or evening sometime. I'm glad they had some time to spend together! Stephen and Mandy are in New Hampshire (I think...somewhere in New England, anyway!)...paid for by Edward Jones. They are supposed to come back by here this weekend on their way home. Look forward to their visit!
I hope everyone has a good week! Wish I could share some jerky with you!

4th Annual Mother/Daughter Weekend
Living area of cabin
Our cute little kitchen!
exterior view of Quigley's Castle
The upstairs "butterfly wall". (She even raised her own moths!)
After touring "the castle" and the gardens and grounds surrounding it, we headed downtown to shop and see the sights. We FINALLY were able to find a place to park...about 1/2 mile from the downtown area. (It was Corvette weekend and the town was FULL!)
We walked for hours, enjoying the quaint shops and eying the beautiful architecture and gardens, as well as the natural beauty of the town.
That evening, after supper and a cutthroat game of 3/14, we went on a "Haunted Hayride". After much laughter, screams and more laughter we headed back to the cabin for a late-night movie and then bed.
Sunday morning we drove to Harrison to worship with the congregation there. It was good to see Kenneth and hear him speak. After services, we visited awhile with Kelli, Trey and Cara (Ken was speaking in Hot Springs). Then we started back towards Eureka, via War Eagle Caverns on Beaver Lake. After a guided tour through the cavern and a couple of close-encounters with the native bats (although not as close as we were made to believe), we made a quick stop at War Eagle Mill and then back to Eureka. After an amazing supper at Casa Colina, we went back to the cabin for a rousing game of Balderdash, an evening of "Enchanted", some poetic journal writing, and then bedtime.
After sleeping in Monday morning, we tidied up the cabin, packed our belongings and reluctantly left our little cabin. One final stop at Thorncrown Chapel...a glass cathedral overlooking the beautiful Ozark mountains...lunch in Alma...then a parting of our ways with Paula. As always, we thoroughly enjoyed our time together and look forward to next year!
Pr 18:24 ¶ A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

It's the most wonderful time of the year....
That is the way I feel about fall! Although we are still having an occasion day with temps in the upper 90's (or even 100), the nights are dipping down into the upper 40's and lower 50's and the days are really comfortable (for the most part). The girls and I went to the Fall Festival at Clark's Gardens Saturday. The weather was perfect! Although the flowers aren't at their best right now, there were still plenty to look at...along with pumpkin patches intersperse throughout the gardens. There were dozens of monarch butterflies feasting on the flowers...so pretty! We were also able to sample the wares of a few salsa vendors, taste some stuffed jalapenos and "chocolate with a kick", as well as sample the chili cookoff's entries.
Bow season started Saturday and Dennis was able to get off work by 4:00. So he headed out to his deer stand and bagged a very nice, big doe! We quickly got her skinned, quartered and put in our "aging" refrigerator. Sherlock did NOT know what to think about all the goings on! He was very leery of that big critter hanging upside down in the garage and couldn't understand WHY Dennis wouldn't let him jump up in his lap! It was fun to watch him!
Jessica mentioned that if I wanted something to work on, she would like to have an infinity scarf. First she had to inform me what exactly that was (I am SO fashion conscious!), then I got on the internet and started looking up patterns. Thursday, while I was in Weatherford, I made a stop at Michaels and bought some yarn and circular knitting needles. This is quite a step for me. All I've ever knitted before (other than practice swatches) is dishrags. So I grabbed my "Knitting for Dummies" book and began. Two days later, I ripped it all out and started AGAIN! I think I've got the hang of it now. It is slow going...I've only got about 1 1/2" done (it is supposed to be about 9" wide). But my "rhythm" is improving and I'm gaining my confidence. (Sherlock also doesn't understand why he can't sit in my lap...and play with the yarn...while I'm knitting!)
Friday, the girls and I leave on our annual Mother/Daughter weekend, Lord willing! It will be a grueling drive Friday night...an 8 hour trip to Eureka Springs. Paula will be getting there several hours earlier. We are really looking forward to the weekend! We always have a lot of fun, but we don't overtax ourselves...just do whatever we feel like, when we feel like it. We have discovered the joys of renting cabins for our stay, which gives us a good measure of privacy and latitude in our plans. We can save a little money by preparing our own breakfast, plus we usually bring home leftovers for at least one meal. We carry "chick flicks" to watch in the evenings, as well as cards and games. I am so thankful that we are able to spend this time together! We hope to make them a life-long tradition!
I hope you all enjoy this wonderful fall weather and find time to hang out with loved ones this week!
Ac 14:17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

Time with Friends & my first Estate Sale
Last week seems like a blur! Anita came over for lunch on Monday and spent the afternoon. She has been under a lot of stress lately with the illness and passing of her dad, plus her youngest daughter is getting married in 3 weeks. We had a good afternoon of visiting. Wednesday I sat in on a Jobs For Life class, in conjunction with my new volunteer job at Center of Hope. Then Thursday, I actually started advising...what an experience! It was a crazy day! Only one other adviser showed up and the waiting room was full. The director sat in with me to help out, and she ended up having to do most of the work on 2 clients...very difficult cases. The center is open from 10-2, but it was 3 before I got away. I was ready to crawl in a hole and never return! I guess it is good to get some "doozies" out of the way early on, but it left me feeling so ignorant and incapable of doing the job. Hopefully this week will go more smoothly!
Friday morn, Dennis called and told me about an estate sale on his route. I headed over there and looked around. It was a beautiful house filled with gorgeous antiques. Pretty much everything was out of my price range, but it was fun to look. I finally stumbled across a pair of "desk ends" out in the garage. They were perfect for bedside tables and only $20, so I purchased them...one for Dennis' nightstand and one for the guestroom. I also found a set of pretty plastic storage canisters for the pantry. It was my first estate sale. I was amazed at the number of customers! There were 2 cashiers going fulltime and you still had to wait in line for 15-30 minutes to checkout. I was also a bit taken aback by the prices...I'm used to garage sales! However, the quality of the furnishing was excellent...there were a lot of dealers there!
Saturday was our "ladies day out." Josephine, Nancy and my girls came over and we spent the day shopping and visiting. First stop was the estate sale again! After having lunch at a downtown sandwich shop, we browsed through "junktique" and interesting stores in the downtown area. It was fun and we all enjoyed our time together.
Houston and Sue were at Highway Sunday. Houston had agreed to come speak for us that morning. I always enjoy hearing his lessons and visiting with the two of them! He gave a wonderful lesson on "lying"... with a special emphasis on lying to ourselves...very insightful, as usual! Sunday night, Ron gave a very interesting lesson on Genesis 14. He always has a different "spin" to his chapter studies that I really enjoy. Then the Rasmussens, the Moores, the girls and Dennis and I went to CiCi's for supper...another great Lord's day!
Dennis actually had his day off yesterday...first time since Labor Day (other than Sundays). He really needed the rest and even got a few things accomplished.
I am really enjoying this cooler fall weather. We are still getting up into the 90's during the days, most of the time, but the evenings are much cooler and we've been blessed with a few rains over the past 2-3 weeks. I'm getting really excited about our Mother/Daughter weekend coming up in a week and a half! I checked the long range forecast for Eureka Springs and it shows it being in the 60's and 70's while we are there. It ought to be a great weekend!

Another week closer to fall!
I've really been enjoying this cooler weather! It feels like fall is just around the corner. We have a few more days of predicted 100+ temps this week, but I'm hoping that will be the last of this record breaking heat.
I went to see the cardiologist last Tuesday. My EKG and echocardiogram were both good. He wanted to go ahead and schedule me for a stress test (this Wed.)...just to be sure everything is fine. He's not worried about finding anything...just playing it safe! I had my bloodwork redone on Thursday and my cholesterol has dropped about 20 points - both the LDL and total cholesterol. So no medications are needed! I've been reading a book about preventing Alzheimers, which has some dietary and exercise recommendations. I've been trying to incorporate them into my regular diet/exercise regime. The diet is pretty much the regular heart-healthy plan with special emphasis on getting plenty of anti-oxidants and omega-3 fish. I'm not able to do everything it recommends (I think you'd need to be in a higher income bracket than I am to do so!), but am trying to fit berries, cruciferous and green-leafy veggies into my daily diet...along with my oatmeal and apples. TRYING to do tuna or salmon a couple of times a week, too. I've always feared developing Alzheimers and I really want to do all I can to try to avoid it...for my family's sake!
I took Sherlock for his first checkup last week. He is perfectly healthy and they guestimated his age at about 5 months, which means he is old enough to be neutered. He has an appointment to go in the morning for that. He has turned out to be a pretty good kitten, although he is a big crybaby! He is pretty well-behaved, for a cat, and so gentle and loving. I enjoy bringing him in to hold in my lap while I'm relaxing...such a stress reliever, having a purring cat to pet. I've avoided having a pet for a long time, but I'm glad I decided to go ahead and take the plunge again.
Had a crazy day at my volunteer job Thursday! I'm supposed to be training to become a client adviser...processing the paperwork, determining eligibility, and helping direct them to the appropriate organizations that might be able to help them. It was so busy last week, that I mostly just sat around and watched the madness. One lady came in (on her day off) to help and brought her two little boys with her, so I ended up being their babysitter for the first hour or so. I'm beginning to understand the process a little better, but there is still so much to learn. I'm not sure how long it will be before I'm ready to start advising. The thought makes me pretty nervous! I've been tempted to change my job to just data entry and office help, but advisers are what they really need the help with...plus I REALLY want to work with the clients. It is just a big step for me out of my comfort zone!
I spent most of the day Friday working on Renee's 30th birthday cake. James planned a big surprise party for her Saturday night at the Fields' house. She was TOTALLY surprised! There was a great turnout: about 30 adults and close to 20 kids. It was a lot of fun.
I have another full week ahead of me this week, Lord willing: Sherlock's appt. tomorrow, my stress test in FW Wed., working at C of H Thurs., and doing another cake for a "stag party" Friday (the stag party is going to be at the shooting range, so the cake will be a gun!). I'm fighting a bit of a cold, so I hope my energy level stays high enough to accomplish everything planned. I hope everyone's week goes well!
From yesterday's lesson:
Jas 4:13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. 15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. 16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

35 Year Tradition!
Our Labor Day weekends spent in Valliant are truly a time of refreshing! We left MW after Sheila got off work and made it to Paris around 11:00 that night. Ricky and Josh beat us there by about 30 minutes. We visited for an hour or so before we all headed off to bed. After a wonderful breakfast the next morning, we loaded up and headed out for Valliant. The crowd was a bit smaller this year...around 50 all together...but the fun and fellowship were still up to par! Stephen grilled hamburgers and hotdogs for lunch as folks were coming in and catching up on the latest with everyone. There were the ubiquitious games of 42, Nerts and some washer tossing along with lots of visiting and laughter. Then a new something was added: Minute to WinIt competition. Six "lucky" people were chosen to participate: Kyle Y, Josh A, Ricky, Sheila, Mandy and me. The first challenge was to sit on an upside down bathmat and scoot across the room, NOT using your hands, around an obstacle course of chairs. This old woman didn't know if she would make it all the way, but I finished in 53 seconds. Sheila was the winner in 28 seconds! We also had to remove Kleenexes from their box using only one hand (Ricky cheated and won by holding the box between his legs!); move cotton balls from one plate to another using our Vaseline tipped noses; stack cups into a pyramid and collapse them into one stack; toss toilet paper rolls through hoola hoops by throwing them through our legs backwards, and finally trying to remove jingle bells from a Kleenex box tied to our backs without using our hands. The audience got plenty of laughs from watching us! The grand prize winner was Kyle.
Before the competition we had our annual fundraising auction. Kyle did
his usual super job as auctioneer. About $500 was raised this year to
send to a family in need. Belinda (a newcomer this year) was our star
contributor with all of her beautiful crocheted handiwork...and of
course the famous "boo boo bunnies".
The cookoff this year was anything chicken. There were chicken enchiladas, chicken casseroles, chicken pasta, chicken salad, but the winner was a scrumptious Chicken Pot Pie, made by Nicole and Chelsey...3 time winners! The competition entries provided our supper for the evening. After the sun went down we headed over to the ballpark for the traditional softball game. Fun times!
We enjoyed two wonderful assemblies Sunday! Ken gave an excellent lesson that morning on "Life Happens"...assuring us that in spite of all the difficulties that we WILL face, God is faithful to see us through it all. Then Dennis followed Sunday afternoon with a heartfelt lesson on prayer...content rather than mechanics. Both were very emotional and inspiring!
The weekend ended with the much looked forward to ice cream supper at Kit and Ray's house. The weather was perfect, the ice cream was delicious, and the company was great! It is always sad to say goodbye to everyone, but we always look forward to next year!
From Ken's lesson: Isa 46:4 And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.
From Dennis' lesson: Eph 3:16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
I LOVE this bag!
Lovely hat, Kyle!
Sometimes you have to use any method you can to win a bid!
Leland won the "surprise" package: 2 gerbils!

Sherlock gets a new home
Had a great week last week...very productive! Then Sheila and I left Saturday morning to head to Paris. We made a stop at Barnes and Noble on Sundance Square and then looked for a good place to eat lunch. We found an interesting place called "The Corner Bakery" and decided to give it a try...BEST sandwiches I've ever eaten! Then back on I30 and heading east. That drive is usually soooo long and tiring, but I really enjoyed the time with my girl! We had us a good long visit. We made it to Stephen & Mandy's house around 4, and then left again at 5 to pick up Stephen's "little brother" and his little brother, Christian and Damion. We went to eat supper and then headed over to the Paris Community Theatre. Mandy gave the four of us a tour of the theatre while Stephen was getting dressed for his performance. The play was so fun! Stephen did a good job as narrator/villain!
We had services Sunday morning in Stephen's office...the 4 of us plus the McLemores. Then Sheila and I had to hit the road. Stephen and Mandy had been given a kitten that they couldn't keep...their Lily did NOT like the competition! I needed to get the kitten home and acclimated before going to evening services at Highway. The first 30 minutes, the kitten (who I'm calling Sherlock) cried the whole time! Finally I asked Sheila to drive, so I could take him out of his carrier and hold him in my lap. He did fine the rest of the way home. He definitely likes attention! As soon as I put him in the backyard, the neighbor dogs barked and Sherlock disappeared. We finally found him hiding under the shed. So that has turned out to be his "safe" place. (We are surrounded by neighbor's dogs, so the poor little thing will have to get used to dogs barking!) He made it through the night just fine. I'm hoping he is smart enough to survive around here. My last kitten didn't make it through the first week. :(
I heard from Jessica this morning that her mom's surgery went fine and she should be getting out of the hospital in the morning. I know they are relieved!
Well I need to get my mowing done before it gets too hot. I hope everyone has a great week!
Ho 2:18 And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down safely.

Don't worry, be happy now!
This has been a week of contemplation for me...lots on my mind. I'm struggling to bring my life closer to how God would have me to be...looking for ways that I can be more helpful to others...striving to improve my attitude and outlook. I've had the "blahs" for a good long while and have really wrestled with it. Depression and I are not strangers, but I thought that I had pretty much moved past that in my life since hormones no longer dictate my moods. I haven't really felt "sad" or had a lot of the more common symptoms, but something has been "off" for a long time. Depression makes me angry at myself (redundant, I know, since depression is often anger turned inward). I've decided I've got to DO something to get out of this slump!
The first thing I did was sit down and make "the list". Looking at the things that I'm unhappy with vs. the blessings that I have. Doing it mentally doesn't seem to do the trick with me, but seeing it laid out on paper (or the computer screen nowadays) helps me better to see things in the proper perspective. And, of course, my blessings always outweigh my complaints! Counting your blessings...simple concept, powerful tool!
As always when the blues take hold of me, I've found that reaching out to help others helps me so much more. It is hard to feel sorry for yourself when you are ministering to others who are hurting. I've been less than satisfied with my volunteer job for a good while. I started off going to the Ronald McDonald House once a week, but ended up having to cut back to once every other week. The drive is just too far. Plus my duties were necessary, but not very fulfilling. I know that my chores were things that needed to be done and made things easier for the staff and parents at the house, but I didn't really interact with the people I was there to help. I decided to resign from there and find something closer to home where I feel like I can be of more benefit. I plan to go talk to The Center of Hope, in Weatherford, this week about a once a week position with them. I'm very excited to find out more. Heather and Linda and I have been discussing trying to work up enough ladies from our congregation to serve a meal there once a month. We still need to investigate more to see what all is involved, but we are hoping that would provide a good way for our group to reach out to the community.
All in all, it has been a good week! I feel happy and have several things on my mind that have me excited about future opportunities. We enjoyed a wonderful Lord's Day today: had two very good and inspiring lessons; enjoyed some great fellowship; and feel renewed in my spirit from praising God in song. I heard from Ricky twice this weekend, and he sounds great! AND we were blessed with at least 2 inches of rain this weekend. God is good!

Life goes on
So much has happened since this time last week! As most, if not all of you know, my Uncle Buddy passed away last Tuesday...on Ricky's birthday. Our two families are strangely interconnected in death. My mom passed away on the same day that Anita (Buddy's daughter) received her confirmed diagnosis of breast cancer. Therefore she will always remember the day Momma died, and I will always remember the day Uncle Buddy died. (She probably would anyway, but her memory is MUCH better than mine)
The remainder of the week was pretty much focused on the family and the funeral preparations. His funeral was Saturday morning, with a lunch for the family immediately following. It was beginning to look like we wouldn't be able to find a suitable location for the dinner...trying to find a facility on a Saturday in the summertime around here is almost impossible. The family finally located a room at one of the local motels that was available. We were a little panicky when we saw how small it was (it would only seat around 60 people...which was about how many family were expected). But everything worked out fine. The funeral had a huge turnout...standing room only! Most of the people left before going to the cemetery. I'm sure the heat discouraged most people. We got to the room at 11:30, got everything set up, got everyone fed after they returned from the cemetery, got everything cleaned up and were out of there at 2 minutes before 2:00, which was our "checkout" time. We were sweating it (in more ways than one)! I think everyone headed home and threw off their sweaty clothes and got comfortable as soon as possible. At least I know I did! I know the family will have some difficult time ahead of them, dealing with their grief and missing Buddy. However, I think everyone is relieved for his sake that his suffering has finally come to an end. I don't know if I've ever seen anyone as ready to go as he was. So nice to know that he is at peace now!
We had a wonderful Lord's Day yesterday. Our crowd was small due to several attending Eastside to be with Frieda, plus others were gone on vacation. But the assembly was great! The girls came over for lunch and then the four of us napped all afternoon. Back to an even smaller assembly that evening, but it was a good group! Afterwards most of us went to eat together at McAlister's Deli and visited until almost 9:00. Layne and Heather noticed a woman sitting alongside the road as we arrived at the restaurant, so they went out to check on her situation. She had no place to stay the night and no money, so Layne took her down to the Super 8 and got her a room. She was needing a ride to Dallas today, so Charles, Linda and Heather were going to see about taking her. We spent a good portion of our visit discussing ways to help others in the community. I'm so thankful that we have such good-hearted people that are concerned with helping those around them!
I heard from Bobbie this morning. They took Daddy to the hand specialist in FW and everything looked fine. Daddy's wrist was set properly, so they put him in a cast and told him to come back in a couple of weeks. He is having very little pain associated with his break. He took a pain pill on Thursday (the day he broke it) but hasn't had one since. So very thankful for that!
I hope that everyone's week goes well and no one suffers any ill effects from the heat. Please keep the Putman family in your prayers. The reality of losing Buddy will be hitting them now that life is "getting back to normal".
Ps 90:10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

Listen
I read a book last week entitled “Listen”. It is the story of a town that was torn apart because someone started posting private conversations on the internet...on a website called “listen to yourself”. The theme of the book has strongly been on my mind. Then Jamie gave a wonderful lesson yesterday morning about friendship that tied in very well with my thoughts. I decided to share those thoughts with you. (I ask for your forbearance up front. I’m not a talented writer and my thoughts rarely come out in an orderly and easily followed pattern. I’m just “speaking” from my heart. Mt 12:34 ...for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.)
I have struggled my whole life with my tongue. I know all the verses that tell us how to use or not use our tongue, and I truly have tried to obey those verses. I consistently fail. I also realize that this is a universal problem. Jas 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. However that doesn’t negate our responsibility to do our best in this regard. We make excuses; we mean well; we only discuss others with our spouse, or best friend, or family; we do it out of concern. Sometimes it is necessary to discuss others, but we should be so very careful to make sure we are not making excuses for ourselves before speaking.
The conversations that are exposed in this book are private conversations...often between a husband and wife in the privacy of their own home. What’s wrong with that? How would we feel if those private conversations were shared with the person that we are discussing? Ec 10:20 Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter. Even if our intent isn’t to hurt or belittle, would it do so if overheard? As Jesus told us, we speak what is in our hearts. Therefore we need to truly examine our hearts. Are all of our conversations directed by love? One of my favorite anchor verses is: Php 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Why is it my anchor verse? Not because I excel at doing this, but because I constantly struggle with it! If our hearts and minds are being focused on these good things, then our lips will speak accordingly. Ga 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Our fruit should show forth these things...and it will if our hearts are properly cultivated. And, of course, we can’t forget the characteristics of love that should be firmly implanted in our lives: 1Co 13:4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Another common excuse for misusing our words is that we are “just kidding.” How many hurtful and damaging things have been said in jest? Eph 5:3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; 4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. People make fun of others because of their weight, their excess of or lack of hair, their complexion, their intelligence or lack of, their clothes....the list is endless. Being put down is NOT funny! As long as I can remember, people have teased my dad about his stomach. He’s never been a large man and would never be characterized as fat...except for his stomach. He doesn’t appear to be bothered by it and will also joke about it, but if people said those things to or about me, it would devastate me. I don’t know of anyone who enjoys being overweight (or underweight, or ugly, or stupid, etc.). So why do we think it is funny to talk about it? Why do we think it is RIGHT to do so? Job 15:2 Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind? 3 Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?
Col 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
Words are so very powerful! Pr 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Before we hand our children a hunting rifle, we teach them to use it safely and correctly. Before we allow someone to operate a motor vehicle, they must first be instructed in the safe and lawful operation of it and pass a written exam as well as demonstrate their driving proficiency. The tongue is much more powerful and dangerous than either of these. Jas 3:5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. 7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Words can also be powerful in a positive direction. They can comfort, inspire, teach, encourage. Pr 16:24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. Joh 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. 1Th 5:14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
I plan to work harder to control the beast. I pray that God will “create in me a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within me” (Ps 51:10). I hope to be slow to speak and truly consider the words of my mouth, that they be “in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them;” (Prov. 8:8), that they be “as deep waters” (Prov. 18:4), and “gracious” (Eccl. 10:12). I ask for your prayers, as well, for all of us to improve. I feel that this is something that we all struggle with daily, but I want to emphasize that this is primarily directed at myself.
Jas 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Ps 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
Ps 141:3 Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.
Tit 2:7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, 8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.
