To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven

I’m hoping to have a relatively quiet day to rest today. The past few days have been a whirlwind!

Ricky started a new job a couple of weeks ago back in Fort Worth. He and Amber decided they didn’t like living so far away from family. The place he left when they moved to Arkansas offered him his old job back with a good raise and great opportunity for advancement. So they brought what they needed and stayed with us until they found a place to move into. They found a cute duplex just south of Weatherford that would allow them to move in on the 3rd (last Friday). The original plan was for us to keep Archer while they went to get all of their things, then move in Saturday. Then Glenda passed away. We all wanted to be there for her funeral, so we decided to all go to Arkansas. The kids had to meet with the people from the city to get their water account lined up early Thursday afternoon, so we loaded up our Highlander, took care of that, then headed north. We stopped in McAlester for the night, then drove up to the funeral Friday morning. Afterwards we picked up the moving van that Ricky had rented, went to Russellville and spent the afternoon loading all of their belongings into it. (Actually, Dennis, Ricky and Amber loaded the van while I took care of Archer.) Then we drove back to McAlester for the night and made it to their duplex about 48 hours after we had left. Everything went about as well as could be expected, and they are now settled into their new home. Whew!

We really enjoyed having the kids here for those two weeks! It gave us the perfect opportunity to really bond with Archer. He is such a sweet baby! He made our lives so fun during their stay. He settled in here as seamlessly as could be. He and Grandad are now best friends, of course! And “deer” has become his favorite word. We were amazed at how well he handled the frenzy of the past few days. We are sure happy to have them living so close now!

We were so sorry to hear of Glenda’s passing. She was one of the sweetest and dearest ladies that I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. I’m thankful that her suffering is over, but she will be missed terribly. Please keep her family in your prayers as they grieve her loss…especially Gene.

We were also sorry to hear of Dot Selman’s passing. It has been a few years since we’ve seen her, but she was also a favorite of ours. She introduced me to knitted dishrags, which I have loved and used exclusively ever since. There is no telling how many HUNDREDS of them that she made over the years. She kept a little chest full, so that she could share them with anyone who visited.

We also had more bad news last week. After about a week in the hospital, Sherrod learned that he has an aggressive type of cancer in his liver. He is supposed to begin chemo this week. He and Anita will definitely need prayers and encouragement as they go through this battle!

Since we had house guests for a couple of weeks, the work on the house got sidelined. Dennis did get the walls finished and the commode installed, so we could have two functioning toilets while they were here. I finished the quilt project that I was working on and put up my sewing supplies before Archer arrived. Our time was pretty much spent playing with him and visiting with his parents. We did a trip to the zoo and went to the park 2-3 times. That boy LOVES being outside! His absolute favorite thing, though, was “driving” Grandad’s truck. Dennis would take him out there everyday and spend a LONG time letting him play in the truck cab. Then in the evening, they would drive around town looking at deer. (We have a large population of deer that live within the city limits!)

Andy and Sherry came over yesterday and went to Eastside with us. Then we all went to Whataburger for lunch, and they came back to the house for a visit. We really enjoyed catching up with them!

Saturday, we are planning to leave on our Spring Break vacation with Nam. We are spending a few days in Branson, then coming back by Stephen’s for the cousins to have some time together. We are really looking forward to our time with Nam. With school and everything else that’s been going on, we haven’t been able to have a sleepover since New Year’s Eve. In fact, the only time we’ve even seen him since then is when they went to the zoo with us a couple of weeks ago. It ought to be a very entertaining trip!

Well, I really need to get my day going. I hope that you all have a good week, and please keep those who are suffering and grieving in your prayers!

In honor of Glenda and Dot: Prov. 31:10-31 Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil All the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax, And willingly works with her hands. She is like the merchant ships, She brings her food from afar. She also rises while it is yet night, And provides food for her household, And a portion for her maidservants. She considers a field and buys it; From her profits she plants a vineyard. She girds herself with strength, And strengthens her arms. She perceives that her merchandise is good, And her lamp does not go out by night. She stretches out her hands to the distaff, And her hand holds the spindle. She extends her hand to the poor, Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, For all her household is clothed with scarlet. She makes tapestry for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the land. She makes linen garments and sells them, And supplies sashes for the merchants. Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness. She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: "Many daughters have done well, But you excel them all." Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, And let her own works praise her in the gates.
