Lots of Family Time!

Dad has pretty much settled into his new routine and is quite a bit better than he has been during the past few weeks. I’ve discussed it with different ones at the nursing home, and we all think it is because he can finally relax and not worry about Bobbie anymore. He will (sometimes) actually have a conversation, of sorts, with us. We got him a little mini-fridge for his room last week, which he really enjoys having. This morning, I took him to Walmart for some new clothes and a few snacks…at his request. So he is definitely taking more of an interest in things again. He attended the monthly potluck, yesterday, with Dennis. I found out that he will be able to stay in the same room, which he REALLY wanted to do. He has more room to move around with just one bed and chair in there. He has taped condolence cards and a few of his birthday cards (from May) to his walls, so he can look at them all the time. He has finally gotten to where he likes his bed. It is a special air mattress that is designed to prevent (and help in the healing of) pressure sores. He adds his own extra padding to it, too. Since he has started using it, rather than sitting in his chair 24/7, two of his three sores have healed over; and the third one is almost healed. It looks like we may have some better days ahead for awhile.

Nam came for a sleepover last Wednesday. We had lettuce wraps and fried rice, which he loved! (He informed me that he likes Asian food better than Mexican!) We then watched "Tangled". We always have to do a movie when we have a sleepover...plus pancakes for breakfast! He slept the best that he ever has at our house. We ended up having to wake him up around 7:30 to eat breakfast! He usually would start waking up around 5 and be up by 6:00. I had to take him to meet up with his mom and dad around 9, so he could go for his last shot before starting school. We also kept him Friday for the last time before starting school. He kept asking me if he would still be able to see us after he started school. I assured him that we would keep in touch.

We had supper with Sheila and Matt Saturday night. Diane B was also a guest. They cooked a great supper of venison and chicken street tacos! Matt even made homemade flour tortillas. After eating, Dennis went to Nam’s room to play with him while the rest of us played Apples to Apples. It was Diane’s first time to play. She assured us it wouldn’t be her last!

Yesterday, I spent the day with the Haslet congregation. They threw a shower for Amber and Ricky that evening at David and Candice’s new house. It was SO much fun! Stephen and Mandy’s family drove over for the festivities, too. It is always nice to have some extra time with my kiddos. The boys were busy playing with Luke, but we had a lot of fun with little Miss Gracie! We played several hilarious games with Amber and Ricky being the focal point. Everyone had a great time. We also had some scrumptious food to eat! The kids got some very nice gifts, too.

Dennis and I are planning a little get-away for a couple of days. We are leaving tomorrow morning, after checking in on Dad, and going to spend a couple of nights in Waco. I have been wanting to visit the Homestead Heritage place down there, so when Dennis suggested a short trip, I recommended it for a destination. More than anything, we are just wanting to get away to relax for a short spell. Dad should be fine for 48 hours, and we will only be a couple of hours away…just in case. We are both really looking forward to it! I’m hoping it won’t be too hot to enjoy the Homestead attractions.
