Resting up from our travels the first day:
Our cottage was 2 stories, the living room and kitchen, downstairs; and the bedrooms and bathrooms, upstairs. So we did a lot of going up and down!
(Now picking up where I left off...) It rained all day Thursday, so we did our "indoor sightseeing". We started out at the World War II museum. We spent 3 hours there and could have spent several more! However, we still had the aquarium to tour. We saw so many beautiful sea creatures and even got to pet some rays!
Friday, we toured a couple of plantations: The Houmas House
and the Laura Plantation, a Creole plantation where the original "Brer Rabbit" stories came from (tales adapted from stories told by the slaves there).
Friday night, we took the streetcar back down to the French Market and walked around till after dark. We had to stop back by the Café du Monde for beignets one last time! We were glad to get back on our streetcar, heading back "home", that night!
We finished off our tour of New Orleans with the Spring Fling...a guided tour of The Quarter. We learned a little more history of the city and were able to see some things that the average tourist never has the opportunity to view. There is a "city within a city" that is very tranquil and beautiful...behind the buildings lining the streets.
We had planned to go to the zoo after our tour, but the crowds were crazy! So we enjoyed one last lunch in the city that "lives to eat" and headed north to Shreveport, where we spent Saturday night. After attending church services at Walker Rd. again, we said goodbye to Paula and started home. Another great girls' trip with memories that will stay with us a lifetime!
